This was a complete joy to read! You've captured not only Firaq's poetry but also the intimate self-discovery and rediscovery of himself. I adore how you bring out his talent for making "space" in his poems and inviting readers to fill it with their feelings. How you frame poetry as a companion and not a teller is simply lovely. This essay makes me wish to read Firaq once again with new eyes. Gracias for this moving tribute!
Beautiful, I love poetry. Ghazals and Sher have always fascinated me and I try and read the greats whenever I can. In order to understand their craft I would try to write one myself just to understand their headspace. Your writing helped me understand Firaq some more. Thanks keeping sharing about the greats. In the meantime I will search your old posts for more of such gems.
Beautiful piece! Thank you so much for sharing your favourite poet with us along with your thorough commentary.
